Problem Statement
Due to the rise of social media, connecting in person with others is more difficult to do when moving to a new place; especially for recent college grads who have yet to gain the social confidence to make connections outside of a school environment.
Working Prototype
To the left is a functioning prototype that walks through the full journey—from opening the app to forming an in-person connection, at which point the app steps back and is no longer needed.

Design Strategy
Our goal was to create a user-friendly experience using a simple yet bold color palette and iconography that resonates with young professionals.
-
Profile Pages – Designed to reflect the geometric aesthetic of the overall Mozaik design, while maintaining a smooth and cohesive experience. The layout intentionally presents minimal information, aligning with our design philosophy: since connections are made in person, it’s in that real-world interaction where the decision to continue the connection should be made.
-
Personal Mozaik - Inspired by classic artistic mosaics, it is fully customizable, encouraging ongoing engagement without feeling like a typical social media platform.

Initial Research Findings
Our original research indicates that among younger generations, face-to-face interactions—and the communal spaces that once fostered them—have been steadily declining due to the growing influence of digital environments.
However, there is a clear market need for a solution that facilitates meaningful, offline connections. Studies consistently show that in-person interactions lead to stronger, more lasting relationships, highlighting an opportunity to reintroduce and reimagine physical spaces for authentic human connection.

Ideation and User Testing Feedback
After conducting user testing on our initial app design, it became clear that we had strayed from the original vision. Feedback revealed that the app felt too similar to existing social media platforms, causing its unique value to get lost in the noise.
In response, we redesigned the interface to be simpler and more approachable—re-centering the experience to better resonate with our target audience of younger users.
